Duet: Partners in Health & Aging Raises Nearly $105K at 27th Annual Poinsettia Tea

By Lynette Carrington

In its 27th year, Duet: Partners in Health & Aging rallied a dedicated group of volunteers, supporters and the general public to raise nearly $105,000 to benefit the nonprofit at its Poinsettia Tea event.
For 37 years, the interfaith organization has promoted health and well-being through a broad range of services to homebound adults, family caregivers, faith communities and grandparents raising grandchildren.
Attendees at the event enjoyed tea, scones, sandwiches and an assortment of delectable desserts. Destry Jetton, “Arizona Midday” host and executive producer for Channel 12, served as mistress of ceremonies and the North Valley Chorale group provided entertainment that included a rousing collection of Broadway favorites.  The Dosia Carlson KARED About Award was presented to Dr. Wilma Basnett-Emerson who has served as superintendent of the Osborn School District for 26 years and volunteers with a variety of local organizations. Dr. Basnett-Emerson also currently serves on Duet’s board of directors and has provided the nonprofit with strategic leadership for many years.
Chairperson for the event Jody Pelusi said she is enthusiastic about the services Duet provides throughout the Valley and the work that goes into the annual tea.
“We have a wonderful committee and a wonderful staff and each year this gets easier,” Pelusi said.” She originally started out with Duet six years ago by stuffing envelopes as part of a committee and has grown into her more robust role with the organization.
“The biggest challenge with this event is that there are so many competing events and everybody has such worthwhile causes,” she said. “We hope everybody says ‘This is so good for the community.’ Our services are for people who really need help and it is free for them.”
Duet is always looking for new volunteers and donors. Duet’s free-of-charge services are available in the greater Phoenix area. To volunteer, donate or ask for assistance, visit duetaz.org or call (602) 274-5022.
