Colleen’s Dream Donates $100K to TGen

Colleen’s Dream Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to raising money for ovarian cancer research, presented TGen with a $100,000 donation at its “An Evening of Luxury” event that took place at Scottsdale Fashion Square on September 29.

This donation followed a series of fundraising events during the month of September for National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

“The support of Colleen’s Dream is helping TGen pursue new precision medicine treatments for ovarian cancer,” said Dr. Will Hendricks, an assistant professor in TGen’s Integrated Cancer Genomics Division. “This latest donation will now enable TGen to begin the process of helping patients through clinical trials based on our genomic-based biomedical analysis.”

Earlier this year, Colleen’s Dream presented TGen with a separate $30,000 grant for ovarian cancer research, a disease which is expected to take the lives of over 14,000 women in 2017.

“This assistance is enabling us to build on the TGen-led international effort that resulted in our groundbreaking findings about the genetic cause of this particular type of ovarian cancer to make possible studies on how it might best be treated,” said Dr. Jessica Lang, a post-doctoral fellow in Dr. Hendricks’ Lab.

TGen has already discovered a mutation in a gene that drives a particularly aggressive type of ovarian cancer and has created a new test to diagnose it.

“We are encouraged by the remarkable progress being made against ovarian cancer by TGen research,” said Nicole Cundiff, CEO of Colleen’s Dream Foundation. “We believe our support will result in better treatments and better outcomes for women, and the fact that TGen is based in our backyard means Arizona patients will benefit first.”

Cundiff and her sisters founded Colleen’s Dream after their mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012. Since the foundation’s inception it has raised over $700,000 for research.
