Frontdoors Five: How to Prepare for U2’s 9/19 Show

One of rock’s best-known groups, U2, is coming to the Valley on Tuesday with The Joshua Tour 2017. The iconic group will be commemorating the 30th anniversary of their fifth studio album of the same name — it is their best-selling album to date and is among one of the best-selling albums of all time. Needless to say, this show is a pretty big deal, so if you’re going, you better start the evening right. To make the most of your experience, we put together a list of the top ways to celebrate before arriving at the show.
1.Ride in style with a limo.
There are few occasions momentous enough to warrant a limo — but we’d say this is one of them, especially if you live across town from Glendale and want a comfortable commute. Plus, you’ll have a built in DD so you don’t have to worry about enjoying drinks on the way!
2.Enjoy a Guinness at an Irish pub.
What better way to celebrate U2’s Irish heritage at an Irish bar? Fortunately, there’s no shortage of them here in Phoenix, but some of our favorites are Rosie McCaffrey’s Irish Pub & Restaurant and The Skeptical Chymist.
3.Re-listen to the album.
If you haven’t listened to the album since it came out 30 years ago, now might be a good time to re-visit. Even if you have, there’s never a bad time to listen to hits from the album like “Where the Streets Have No Name,” “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” and “With or Without You.”
4.Enjoy dinner at WestGate.
There’s no excuse to go hungry at the show with all the great restaurants that now surround the arena, like those at Westgate. Places like Yard House, Kabuki and Bar Louie are all great options for pre-concert dining.
5.Get to know the opening act.
We’d hope everyone has heard of multi Grammy award-winning singer/ songwriter Beck, but since his more alternative music style might fall out of the realm of what most traditional rock fans of U2’s would listen to, we think this is worth mentioning. His hit songs, “Loser” and “Girl” are absolutely worth showing up to the show early for.
