Frondoors Five: What To Do Before Summer Ends

While the 100 degree temperatures aren’t going away any time soon, summer as we know it is coming to a close. Kids are going back to school, pre-season football begins next week and you’re probably wondering how you didn’t manage to do anything on your summer bucket list. Fortunately, we have a few fun summer ideas to help you make the most of the season before pumpkin spice lattes return to Starbucks.

  1. Take a staycation.

Maybe you didn’t get a chance to take a dream vacation this summer, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy some rest and relaxation. Plus — with a summer staycation, you enjoy the added bonus of avoiding airport security and can enjoy low summer rates and spa deals at most resorts.
2. Travel up north.
If you’re in the mood for more adventurous activities, head up north where you can enjoy the great outdoors with a lower risk of heat stroke. We heard the high in Sedona this weekend is a chilly 85 degrees — perfect for hiking, exploring and patio dining.
3. Try a new summer cocktail.
A great cocktail can transport you to the tropics — well, not exactly, but it does make the summer heat a lot more bearable. One of our favorites is the Jungle Bird at the beloved Bitter & Twisted cocktail bar. Or, blend your favorite bottle of rosé with some ice and enjoy frosé, the unofficial drink of the summer.
4. See a concert.
Nothing says summer like seeing one of your favorite bands live, and fortunately, there are plenty of indoor and outdoor options all around the Valley. See your favorite artists of all genres outdoors at Ak-Chin Pavillion, see your favorite DJ at Talking Stick Resort or enjoy your music indoors at one of the many indoor venues, like Jobing.com Arena.
5. See a baseball game.
The Diamondbacks are winning, but the Cardinals will be stealing everyone’s attention soon. Chase Field has great air conditioning, so there’s really no better time to see a baseball game than right now — even if you do just go for the beer.
