Childsplay, a professional theatre company created to entertain children, hosted the Wonderland Gala on April 29 at Tempe Center for the Arts.
Guests dressed to the whimsical Alice in Wonderland theme and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine, a silent auction, live music and performance of Childsplay’s Wonderland: Alice’s Rock & Roll adventure.
The musical rendition of the classic story features the same well-known characters, like The Mad Hatter and The Queen of Hearts, but with a twist, as the actors telling the story are also in the band, creating the music for the performance.
Childsplay was founded in 1977, and has put on several shows in-house and at schools over the last 40 years, and now serves an average annual audience of 200,000 students teachers and families. The organization also offers arts education resources in 40 communities each year. Over the last 36 years, Childsplay has educated over four million children and families.
