Frontdoors Five: Memorial Day Weekend Activities

Memorial Day is coming up on Monday and we have a feeling those of you who are staying in the Valley over the three-day weekend might be looking for some activities to keep yourself occupied here in town. Fortunately, with the masses out on vacation, we’ve put together a list of a few hot spots that might be a little less crowded than usual for your visiting pleasure. Most importantly, we also encourage everyone to remember the reason behind the day off work, and take some time to reflect on and honor those who’ve lost their lives serving the United States while you enjoy the weekend.
1. MIM (Musical Instrument Museum)
At the MIM you can explore history and a variety cultures through music, and stay entertained for hours. Right now the beautiful space is even exhibiting instruments played by legends such as Johnny Cash and Maroon 5.
2. Mill Avenue
Now that most of the college students have fled for the summer, it’s safe to return to one of Tempe’s popular culinary destinations, where there are great restaurants like La Bocca Urban Pizzeria + Wine, Ncounter, House of Tricks just off the main avenue.
3. Arizona Museum of Natural History
If you’re looking for a fun place to take the kids, look no further than the Arizona Museum of Natural History where they can sift through a ton of exhibits on subjects that range from dinosaurs to geology.
4. The Nash
Enjoy a night, or an afternoon, out with some jazz this weekend with two performances, one on Saturday, a matinee on Sunday, with an unrehearsed jam session on Sunday evening.
5. Wigwam
The Wigwam will have a variety of events for the whole family this weekend, including foot golf every day, live music Saturday night and a variety of poolside activities including a DJ, water relay and squirt gun water race.
