Beehive Pays Homage to Brilliance of Aretha, Tina, Diana & Janis


Phoenix Theatre kicked off the production of Beehive: the 60s Musical! on May 10.
The all-female production pays homage to the women who dominated the music industry during that time, such as Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross with over-the-top costumers, wigs and a lively band.
The musical production will star Chanel Bragg and Alyssa Chiarello, who were previously seen together in In the Heights as well as Katie Hart who performed in Billy Elliot, Brittney Mack who performed in All Night Strut and Ashley Stults of One Man, Two Guvnors.
The final actress in the performance will be Teshomech Olenja, a Phoenix Theatre newcomer.
The production’s director is Michael Jenkins, who previously directed All Night Strut and performed as Dr. Watson in Baskerville: A Sherlock Homes Mystery.
Phoenix Theatre is the largest producing regional theatre company ins Arizona, with over 400 performances on multiple stages each year. The theatre, which is entering its 97th season, was one of the founding members of the Central Arts District and facilitates several outreach programs.
