D-backs Foundation Pitches in $74K to Build Tempe Veterans Housing Project Playground
Save the Family Foundation has been awarded a $74,075 Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Award from the Arizona Diamondbacks and their charitable arm, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation.
The funds will be used to build a playground at Valor on Eighth, the first-of-its kind affordable housing project for veterans and their families now under construction in Tempe.
Save the Family was one of nine organizations receiving more than $700,000 this year. The Diamondbacks and their foundation have provided more than $50 million to Arizona Charities since their inception in 1998. Of the $50 million given back to the community, more than half has been dedicated to the state’s youth.
“We are beyond overwhelmed with this remarkable show of support for Valor on Eighth and the families that will benefit from the generosity of the Arizona Diamondbacks,” said Save the Family CEO Jacki Taylor. “The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to show what a tremendous community partner they are. Even more heart-warming is that so much of their charitable giving focus is on children.”
At Valor on Eighth, a collaboration with the City of Tempe and co-developers Gorman and Company and ARM of Save the Family, Save the Family will provide a full range of services from free before- and after-school care and a computer lab with training classes to financial literacy lessons and job training and placement.
The 50-unit rental community will include five market-rate, live-work units on the ground floor and 45 units primarily for veterans and veterans with children.
