Herberger Theater Announces New Board Members
The Herberger Theater Center announced its board of directors recently elected five new members, Patrick Lee Dostal, Dan Jones, FACHE, Mara Pernick, Michael W. Sillyman and John B. Weldon, Jr., who will support the various programs and other initiatives that continue to demonstrate the Herberger Theater is where
the audience meets the art.
“These distinguished individuals offer a wealth of professional experience from diverse industries and fresh perspectives that complement the strengths of our board,” said Kenneth C. Sundlof, Jr., HTC board chair. “Their collective enthusiasm for the Herberger Theater, passion for the arts and commitment to enriching the community will enhance our efforts to provide quality arts experiences in an environment that celebrates diversity, talent and creativity.”
Patrick Lee Dostal is a director of Product Development at American Express Company. Previously, he served in leadership roles to support several of the company’s operations, including Mobile and Online Partnerships, and Network and Technical Operations. Dostal earned a Master of Education in Higher Education with a certificate in Educational Research and Policy Development, and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing with honors, from Arizona State University.
Dan Jones, FACHE, is the CEO at Abrazo Central Campus. Previously, he worked with Nueterra International, and provided hospital and health system operations and strategic development expertise to HCA, Tenet and Ochsner Health System. Jones is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. A graduate of Randolph-Macon College in Virginia, he earned a Master of Science in Health Services Administration from the Medical College of Virginia, and board certification in healthcare management as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Mara Pernick is the director of Business Development at BDO, the fifth largest global tax and consulting firm. Previously, she was vice president of Business Development with the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. Pernick serves as vice chair for the Metropolitan Phoenix Export Alliance, and board member of the International Leadership Council-Greater Phoenix Economic Council; Metropolitan Seed Fund and Western School of Science and Technology. She earned a Master of Business Administration from George Mason University, Virginia, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arizona.
Michael W. Sillyman is a senior partner at Kutak Rock LLP, where the focus of his practice is arbitration, commercial litigation and employment defense. Previously he served as president and secretary of the Hispanic National Bar Foundation; first vice president of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA); president of Los Abogados, the Hispanic Bar Association for Maricopa County; vice president on the board of trustees for the Desert Botanical Garden; and board member of Community Health Charities.
John B. Weldon, Jr. is a founding member of Salmon, Lewis & Weldon, where he focuses on water law, natural resources litigation, environmental law, Indian law, and electric power and utilities. He has been listed numerous times, including Best Lawyers® in America 1993-present – Natural Resources Law, Water Law and Environmental Law and Best Lawyers® 2014 – Environmental Law “Lawyer of the Year.” He is a member of the American Bar Association; State Bar of Arizona; California State Bar Association; Maricopa County Bar Association and Colorado River Water Users’ Association. Weldon served as HTC’s board chair (1999-2001) and a board member (1992-2002). He earned a J.D. from the Hastings College of Law, University of California and graduated magna cum laude, Phi Kappi Phi with a Bachelor of Science from Fresno State College. He is an author and speaker.
Board members serve for three years, with an opportunity for election to a second consecutive term.
