The Phoenix Symphony is pleased to announce the appointment of Alison Johnston as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, effective October 26. Mrs. Johnston was the former Executive Director of Ballet Arizona and most recently held the post of Chief Operating Officer of the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center.

“It is my sincere pleasure to welcome Alison to our organization,” says Jim Ward, President and CEO of the Symphony. “She is a highly talented professional who identifies with our mission, will help drive growth in innovative ways, and will take a leadership role in achieving our next level of success.”

Mrs. Johnston brings a breadth of knowledge and experience, from working in both the not-for-profit and for-profit arenas during her career. In her role as the Executive Director of Ballet Arizona, Mrs. Johnston led a successful capital campaign to complete the organization’s new facility. She has also held senior-level positions with local companies including Pet Smart Charities and the Wildflower Bread Company, an Arizona-based restaurant chain. Prior to moving to Arizona, Mrs. Johnston spent 12 years in executive roles with Citigroup Latin America and the Caribbean.

“It’s a great honor for me to join the Symphony,” says Johnston. “It’s an unique opportunity to use my business skills and my passion for the arts to make a valuable and positive impact in our community. I also have the good fortune to work with Jim, a talented executive team, a renowned Music Director and highly-talented musicians. This combination, along with a strong Board of Directors and supportive donors, helps set the foundation for the Symphony’s continued success.”

Mrs. Johnston joins The Phoenix Symphony at a time of positive growth and stability for the company. During the past four years, the Symphony has seen tremendous success through stabilization efforts and astute financial management. “We’re embarking on Symphony 2.0, which is the next phase in the Symphony’s strategic growth,” says Ward. “Alison’s skills, experience and relationships will be important to help us evolve and achieve our vision.”
