Scottsdale Artists’ School Hires Sherry Sklar

Scottsdale Artists’ School, a renowned leader in fine art training for artists of all levels, announced today that it has hired Sherry Sklar as the organization’s new Executive Director. Ms. Sklar brings years of experience, passion for the arts and fresh ideas to the Scottsdale Artists’ School.
“Sherry is the right fit at the right time for the Scottsdale Artists’ School,” said Chris Gooch, President of the Board of Trustees. “As the school celebrates its 30th Anniversary, we are excited to have an Executive Director with the rare combination of art and business background to ensure the organization’s next thirty years are equally successful as its first thirty.”
An active member of the Phoenix arts community, Ms. Sklar served as President and board member of Arizona Costume Institute, an organization for the fashion design collection at Phoenix Art Museum. Since 2005, she has chaired successful fundraisers and produced a lecture series for the organization.
Ms. Sklar is a fashion design adjunct faculty member at Mesa Community College where she teaches classes in design, illustration and cultural studies. She receives great satisfaction in teaching, enjoying the opportunity to give back to her students and pass along the education and training she considers herself fortunate to receive.

Ms. Sklar received a B.S. in Communications from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY and B.F.A. in Fashion Design from Otis College of Art & Design, Los Angeles, CA.
Previously, she held senior management positions at The Ellman Companies, Arizona Opera and Lehman Brothers and consulted on financial communications and capital markets strategy with companies in Asia. She is a contributing writer, editor and illustrator for several local and national publications. Ms. Sklar began her career in classical music management and magazine publishing. She currently resides in Fountain Hills, Az. with her two rescue pets, Peek-a-Boo—a Pekinese and Chuck—a NYC street-wise orange tabby. Ms. Sklar is scheduled to start at Scottsdale Artists’ School on July 1, 2013.
