Who’s In Charge of the Greenest Show on Grass?

Meet Andy Markham
Tournament Chair
Waste Management Phoenix Open

THIS IS WHO I AM…

Amused by… Saturday at the Open, it’s the best show you’ll ever see.
Angered by… inconsiderate drivers.
Inspired by… the $111,000,000 the tournament has raised for local charities.
Charmed by… 5,000 volunteers at the WMPO and their passion.
Relaxed by… a good foot massage!
Led by… the desire to help others.
Moved by… the community’s generosity and support of the Phoenix Open.

It’s been called the Greenest Show On Grass for good reason. The Waste Management Phoenix Open, presented by Ak-Chin Indian Community, returns January 30 – February 5, 2017 at TPC Scottsdale. Thanks to the hard work of event host, The Thunderbirds, more than $86 million has been raised over the years for Arizona most vital charities like the Special Olympic, Boys and Girls Club and Valley of the Sun United Way.
The idea spawned from early Thunderbird inductee and avid golfer Bob Goldwater, who thought it would be a good idea to sponsor a golf tournament. Goldwater sold tickets, recruited volunteers and set up the golf course at the Phoenix Country Club. Turns out, it was a hit! Now, 82 years later, Phoenix Open has developed into one of the leading stops on the PGA TOUR.
Each year the event brings famous golfers like Bobby Clampett, Corey Pavin, Dan Forsman, Howard Twitty, Jim Carter, Notah Begay, Phil Mickelson, Steve Jones and Tiger Woods to the field. And this year is no different!
Last year’s tournament broke three attendance records. Looking to raise the bar even further is this year’s tournament Chairman Andy Markham. Markham knows just how legendary the Phoenix Open is and he’s not looking to disappoint.
